Arrhenius models were developed for glass viscosity within the processing temperature range for six types of commercial
glasses: low-expansion-borosilicate glasses, E glasses, fiberglass wool, TV panel glasses, container glasses, and float glasses.
Both local models (for each of the six glass types) and a global model (for the composition region of commercial glasses,
i.e., the six glass types taken together) are presented. The models are based on viscosity data previously obtained with rotating
spindle viscometers within the temperature range between 900°C and 1550°C; the viscosity varied from 1 Pas to 750 Pas.
First-order models were applied to relate Arrhenius coefficients to the mass fractions of 15 components: SiO₂, TiO₂, ZrO₂,
Al₂O₃, Fe₂O₃, B₂O₃, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, PbO, ZnO, Li₂O, Na₂O, and K₂O. The R² is 0.98 for the global model and ranges
from 0.97 to 0.99 for the six local models. The models are recommended for glasses containing 42 to 84 mass% SiO2 to estimate
viscosities or temperatures at a constant viscosity for melts within both the temperature range from 1100°C to 1550°C
and viscosity range from 5 to 400 Pas. |
