The chemical nature of the black and red pigments of four samples of Hellenistic ceramics from the Salt Lake (Tuz Golu)
region of Central Anatolia has been identified by Confocal Raman Spectroscopy. The black and red pigments are found to be
magnetite (Fe₃O₄) and hematite (α-Fe₂O₃). Raman spectrum of alumina (Al₂O₃) was also taken on white coloured glazes. |
