Phase equilibria were studied in the systems MgO-CaCr₂O₄, CaO-CaCr₂O₄ and MgO-CaO-CaCr₂O₄ in neutral atmosphere. The compositions of solid phases obtained by means of quantitative X-ray analysis were used in the calculation of liquidus curves for the above
two-component systems (on the assumption of formation of ideal solutions in both solid and liquid states) using the LeChatelier-Schröder equation, while the unknown melting entropy of calcium chromite was estimated by the thermodynamic analogy method. The positions of invariant points obtained from the calculated liquidus curves were compared with the positions established experimentally and a satisfactory agreement was reached. The liquidus area of the system MgO-CaO-CaCr₂O₄ in the neighbourhood of the eutectic was calculated by the simplex lattice method on the basis of three experimentally determined liquidus temperatures inside the system. It was found that no liquid phase is formed in the system MgO-CaO-CaCr₂O₄ below 1900 °C. |
