MULTIVARIANT SYSTEM OF OXIDES AND PREDICTION OF THEIR PARTIAL PROPERTIES IN OXIDE GLASSES

Part I of the present paper deals with the V-phenomenon and its relation to the multivariant glass model, part II will be devoted to the relationships of the properties, the system of elements in oxide glasses and a correlation model derived from general properties of the atoms. The table of symbols is presented in part I, the references in part II. Correlation between the individual properties of oxides in glasses and the general characteristics of atoms in the periodic system was studied with the aim to create a system and a mathematical model of the effect of elements in oxide glasses for the purpose of prediction in additive interpolation of the properties of glasses on the basis of their chemical composition. When ranging the thermochemical properties of free oxides and the factors affecting the influence of 1 mol % of oxides bonded in glasses according to the electrostatic bond strength z/a ², the values lie along two intersecting branches (the V-phenomenon). With the elements along branch I the M-0 bonds are for the most part ionic while covalent bonds prevail in the case of branch II elements. The V-phenomenon is confronted with various models of glass (structural and thermodynamic model, ionic solution and active oxide model) and the regression model of the partial properties of oxides in oxide glasses is then predicted on the basis of general characteristics of the atoms. |
