In this work, to study the effects of different contents of nano-CaCO₃ on the hydration characteristics of a basic magnesium sulfate cement (BMSC), the mechanical properties and water resistance of the BMSC paste were analysed via compressive strength tests and long-term immersion tests. The effect of nano-CaCO₃ on the hydration of the BMSC was studied via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and a hydration exothermic curve analysis. The results showed that the early strength and water resistance of the BMSC paste can be improved by different dosages of nano-CaCO₃, and the optimum dosage was found to be 3%. Moreover, the addition of nano-CaCO₃ will not affect the setting and hardening time of the BMSC, nor will it change the phase composition and micromorphology of the BMSC.
