The sintering of the compact gel prepared by peptization of boemite begins at 920 °C and involves conversion of θ-Al₂O₃ to α-Al₂O₃. The bulk density of gels sintered at temperatures up to 1350 °C decreases linearly with the degree of the θ-Al₂O₃ to α-Al₂O₃ conversion. The arising α-Al₂O₃ interferes with the sintering of the system over the temperature range studied
(up to 1350 °C). |
